PAYTON’S PURPLE MAGIC PALEO DETOX DRINK

Payton’s Purple Magic Paleo Detox Drink

Sure to become one of your favorite paleo detox drinks, Payton’s Purple Magic Detox Drink contains veggies, herbs, fruits and algae, all potent natural detoxifiers, which can help rid your body of any harmful stored toxic deposits you may unknowingly be carrying around. These select ingredients, all extensively studied and researched, have been used to help the body release stores of toxins, especially, mercury and lead.

Payton_purple_magic_paleo_detox_drinks

At some time in our lives, all of us have been exposed to a multitude of pollutants, toxins and harmful chemicals, which may have stayed hidden away in the deepest recesses of our bodies. Exposure to toxic heavy metals such as: arsenic, lead, aluminum, mercury, plutonium, and to air, water and food borne sources of pesticides, chemicals (especially  PCBs – polychlorinated biphenyls) and preservatives over time, can lead to deposits of these unhealthy substances in our fat, skin, organs, muscles, brain, spinal cord, hair and nails.

Anyone with mercury amalgam dental fillings has certainly heard of the undisputed scientific agreement that we are subjected to trace amounts of slow mercury exposure every time we chew our  food with any mercury amalgam filled teeth in our mouths. These types of fillings are made up of 50% liquid mercury which continues to slowly leach into our bodies every time we chew and swallow. Scientists all agree this is occurring, what they can’t all agree on is how much mercury we are ingesting in this manner.

Luckily for all of us, nature has provided plants, herbs and algae which have magical like properties of being able to shake loose hidden stores of toxins from our bodies, and then surround the newly released toxins (e.g. mercury) , hold on to it, and assist to transport them out of our tissues. With nature’s help, we can create our very own healing and protective paleo detox drinks. That was my aim in creating Payton’s Purple Magic Detox Drink.

If you have never done any type of detox regimen, I would suggest beginning slowly. With any paleo detox drink, there can be unpleasant detoxing sensations, you may experience while your body is pulling out and eliminating substances you have held deep in your tissues for much of your life. Try starting out with 3-5 days of one serving per day. Take it first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, to see if you are going to experience any reactions from the detox process. Then assess if you need to take a one week break from the Payton’s Purple Magic Detox Drink before continuing on. As an initial detox regimen, 14-30 days of one serving a day would be a good start. When you stop experiencing symptoms of detox, you have reached your goal of cleansing your tissues.

Going forward, you might want to repeat your regimen every few weeks to few months. Remember, if you are new to paleo eating, you may already be in for some SAD (standard American diet) withdrawal effects when you stop eating: grains, dairy, sugars, legumes and processed foods. I highly recommend you first get 10 days of paleo eating behind you before you tackle Payton’s Purple Magic Detox Drink. Cleaning up your entire diet plus taking paleo detox drinks at the same time may make you feel so uncomfortable, you might drop your new healthy eating style altogether!

Take steps one at a time. Getting off of processed foods, grains, sugar and dairy, should be the first ones. You will feel so much better after a few weeks without those, that it will give you the desire to continue on to see just how great you can feel, when you stop harming your body, and instead, give it the healthy nutrients it really needs.

  •  1  (1 inch)  slice fresh or frozen pineapple
  • 1/4  of a medium, unpeeled raw red beet
  • 1  medium red radish
  • 1  whole medium  -or-  4-6 thumb-sized mini-carrots
  • walnut-sized clump dandelion greens
  • walnut-sized clump fresh parsley (any kind)
  • 1  leaf fresh collard greens
  • 1  palm-sized purple kale leaf
  • 1  tsp. minced ginger
  • 2 tsp. chlorella powder
  • 2  tsp. raw honey
  • 1/2  cup organic red grape juice  -or-  1/2 cup red grapes
  • additional water, however much you want to add, for the thinness and consistency you like

(Payton’s Paleo 30 Day Challenge friendly)

1) Blend on high in a Vitamix, blender or food processor until you get the consistency you desire.

Sometimes, when I want a little crunch, I use the food processor, which makes it a bit coarser. Other times, if I’m in a hurry and need to be able to chug it down, the Vitamix (or the food processor with a little water added), is better, as it makes a smoother, thinner consistency.

I find it easiest to shop for enough Payton’s Purple Magic Detox Drink ingredients for one week. I parcel each of the ingredients out into individual servings, and put them together in baggies, then refrigerate the baggies. In this way I clean, cut and trim all the ingredients at once and am set for the week. I leave only four things out of the baggies: the red grape juice (if using that instead of grapes), chlorella powder, honey and minced ginger. (These are too runny to include in the baggies.) Each morning, I simply take a filled baggie from the fridge, pop the ingredients in the blender, add the above four items, and whip up some Purple Magic!

There is nothing but super nutrient dense foods in Payton’s Purple Magic Detox Drink, so there is no problem if you like it, and want to consume it often. The first time I did my own detox process with paleo detox drinks, I drank one serving daily, for 30 days. I kept careful notes on how it affected me during that month and I am happy to share them.

~Here is my own experience of drinking Payton’s Purple Magic once daily, for 30 days~

DAYS 1-5:  Pretty significant muscle aches and generalized joint pain started at the end of day 2. Muscles in my upper back and neck felt very tense and hard, and my lower back ached as if I had overdone some new workout routine involving lifting weights. Dull, constant headache which waxed and waned during the first 4 days. Dry itchy eyes, as if I had dust in them. Significant generalized fatigue, even after a good night’s sleep. Foggy thinking, as if my brain was on a delayed computing mood. It seemed like I had to give my thoughts and brain more processing time to get through conversations and tasks of a normal day. Stuffed up nose and a feeling of clogged sinus congestion, unlike what you feel when you have a normal head cold. On day 3 I started being able to blow out from my nose, hard chunks of phlegm from deep within my sinuses. (The chunky-nose-blowing went on for 2 days.) Lastly, I was emotionally irritable, at times tearful for no good reason, (similar to PMS symptoms), for the first 4 days. (Don’t be surprised by the dark, purplish green color of your stools when you start drinking Payton’s Purple Magic. That’s from the chlorella.)

DAYS 6-10:  Much more energetic, especially first thing in the morning. Cheerful with a positive outlook. Joint pain was gone, but still little waves of muscle achiness, as if I had worked out too hard (I had done nothing but gentle yoga and walking during this entire detox.). Got sleepy early in the evening (did this detox in the month of May), slept about an hour longer than my usual 7 hours.

DAYS 10 &11:  Extremely tired, even though I had a good night’s sleep of 8 hours. Took an hour nap each day and still felt a bit tired afterwards.

DAYS 12-30:  Steady, ultra-calm, stable mood throughout the day. Good energy, positive outlook. All achiness to muscles gone. Very deep, restful sleep. My skin was really glowing, with great color and clarity. Eyes seemed a bit brighter, as if the whites of my eyes had been shined up. I felt very creative and motivated to work, get out and do things. Happy in general. I actually came to expect the taste of the detox drink first thing in the morning, as my wake up drink, and missed it on the two days when I didn’t have time to make it until the afternoon.  No problems with constipation nor loose stools this month. (As is my usual practice, I was eating 100% paleo this entire month also.)

~Beneficial qualities and nutrients found in Payton’s Purple Magic Detox Drink~

COLLARD GREENS:  Binds bile acids to help excretion of cholesterol. More than any other cruciferous vegetable, they can actually lower your cholesterol when you eat them. Rich in vitamins K, A, C, folate and calcium. Choline in collard greens is an important nutrient that helps with sleep, muscle movement, learning and memory.

CHLORELLA:  This is a type of algae which grows in fresh water.  Relative to its serving size, it is high in protein and rich in vitamins A and D. It aids in detoxing heavy metals from the body as written above. Helps the blood carry oxygen. Used to increase the rate of growth of the “good” bacteria in the intestines. Full of chlorophyll which is a natural deodorizer and so helps eliminate bad breath. Strengthens and enhances the immune system and increases interferon levels by stimulating the activity of macrophages and T-cells. This helps the body fight off viruses, bacteria and chemical or other foreign proteins to fight off disease and cancer. (note: freeze drying or pasteurization negates all these properties).

BEETS:  Have unique pigment anti-oxidants, called betalains, that have been found to lower the risk of stroke and heart attacks, and offer protection against coronary artery disease. Betalains reduce inflammation, reduce bad cholesterol,  and lower homocysteine levels in blood. (Be aware of possible beeturia, a harmless reddening of the urine, which may occur in 10-15% of people when they eat beets. These people simply don’t have the genetic trait to breakdown the colored pigment of one of the betalains called betacyanin.)

KALE:  Said to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet, kale is dense with nutrients. Very high in vitamins A, C, K and a good source of manganese, copper, phosphorus, potassium and iron, it is used to lower blood pressure, improve bone health, lower cholesterol levels, and reduce the risk of heart disease. It is quite rich in lutein and zeaxanthin compounds, which are naturally occurring yellow pigments found in many plants and vegetables. These important nutrients are especially beneficial for the eyes and may reduce the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts.

PARSLEY:  Rich in Vitamins A, B-12, C, K and folate. Strengthens the immune system. Has a diuretic effect that helps flush out toxins. Has anti-inflammatory properties.

DANDELION GREENS:  Promotes bile acid production in the gall bladder which aids in digestion. Supports liver function. Rich in Vitamins A, C and K (again, be aware that high vitamin K foods will negate the effect of prescription blood thinners, such as warfarin/Coumadin). Helpful for acne treatment. Detoxifies blood. Helps regulate blood sugar.

PINEAPPLE:  Very high in vitamin C and manganese. Filled with bromelain, a mixture of enzymes that digest protein and are used to reduce inflammation from infection and injuries and to treat swelling after surgery.

CARROTS:  A top source of vitamins A, K, beta-carotene, which protects the skin from sun damage. The flavonoid compounds in carrots help to protect from lung, skin and oral cancers. The anti-oxidant falcarinol in carrots may help fight against cancers by destroying pre-cancerous cells in tumors. A great source of beta-carotene, which is protective against macular degeneration and cataracts.

RED GRAPE JUICE:  Just as with red wine, red grape juice contains abundant polyphenols which play a key role in the prevention of degenerative diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Resveratrol, one of the polyphenols, helps prevent damage to blood vessels, lowers LDL cholesterol and prevents blood clots. Research also suggests it may help protect the body from obesity and diabetes.

GINGER:  Aids in general digestion and the breakdown of protein in the diet. Relaxes and soothes the stomach and intestinal tract. Contains very potent anti-inflammatory compounds called gingerols that may help with the pain of, and increase the mobility of those suffering with osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.

RADISH:  A powerful detoxifier of the blood, especially good at assisting with the removal of bilirubin and treating jaundice. Naturally diuretic, radish cleans out the kidneys and inhibits infections in the urinary tract system. They are a good source of flavonoids called anthocyanins, which have been positively linked to reducing heart disease and have also displayed anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.

RAW HONEY:  Offers anti-oxidant and cleansing properties for our body. Often used in treating digestive problems such as ulcers, colitis, indigestion and gastroenteritis. Consuming a high-quality, raw, local honey for a couple of months before allergy season can significantly reduce the body’s reactions during the worst months.

NUTRITIONAL CONTENT (approx.):

Calories = 265  (175 without honey, and using grapes, instead of grape juice)

Protein = 11 gm

Carbohydrates = 47 gm (only 22 gm if omitting the honey and grapes)

Fiber = 8 gm

Sugar = 31 gm (only 8 gm if omitting the honey and grapes)

Fat = 0.5 gm (trace amount in some chlorella)

I found I don’t need the extra sweetness of the honey, so I leave it out. Adjust anything in the recipe to suit your own tastes. If the Purple Magic is too thick, especially if you are not using juice, add some plain water to thin it out.

Hopefully, you will enjoy my Payton’s Purple Magic Detox Drink and experience the health benefits along with all the densely packed micro-nutrients, vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants this delicious drink provides. Cheers to Purple Magic!
